Victoria O’Brien creates images that combine both of her interests; the abstract and figurative art form. She initially experimented with colour and texture by creating large-scale abstract paintings. Her recent work has since developed and she is currently exploring the mimesis of a variety of paint applications. Victoria studies diverse mark making techniques that she finds interesting, and then uses these as the subjects of her drawings. She selects certain marks, which she enlarges and translates into pencil replicas, focusing particularly on scale, tonality and resemblance. Victoria hopes to further enrich her mark making vocabulary and continue to up-scale her precise drawings.
