pARTicipate Medway was an exhibition built of 3 collectives in our second year of Fine Art at the University of Kent. The exhibition took place at Sun Pier House in Chatham.
Each collective responded to the communal theme of audience participation with extremely different approaches resulting in a unique blend of styles and ideas.
Exhibition description from press release:
The Playground Collaborative explores the viewer’s role in the gallery by making the audience the vital ingredient to the artistic process. Split into five separate events, or performances, running over the course of the day, the performances question the audience’s role in the gallery, exploring a range of thought provoking topics. Twice in the Same River investigates the voice of the river through its metaphor on time and the histories surrounding the collapse of Sun Pier at Chatham in 1885. An immersive and interactive experience that plays with the senses, the installation hopes to pay homage to the collapse and participate the audience in a journey through time. Facebook page

"From the University of Kent, a collective of second year Fine Art students present Twenty14. An exciting exhibition showcasing the work of 47 students providing exclusive insight into a culmination of their current practice and artist development. The range of work is strikingly diverse; from expressive paintings to explorative videos, and robust sculptures to expansive installation. This show is the epitome of ‘mixed-media’."

This December sees the beginning of the University of Kent’s Fine Art 3rd year degree show - the Interim show. Bringing together the works of 42 upcoming artists, I AM exhibits an original approach to contemporary art. Working in a variety of mediums, the exhibition provides an exclusive insight into a culmination of their current practice and artist development.
Over the course of their time at the University, a process of research and experimentation has ensued an exhibition of engrossing installations, evocative films and a diverse display of painting, photography and sculpture.
The exhibition will take place in a currently unoccupied shop in Chatham Intra, a “no mans land” between Rochester and Chatham. The space, previously occupied as ‘Featherstones’, is saturated with history. The building has now been given a new lease of life, as I AM takes over and engages with its past, transporting it to the present.
