STEPHANIE RONDEL

Website: www.stephanierondel.com
Email: stephanierondel@jerseymail.co.uk

Stephanie Rondel responds to the environment that surrounded her as a child growing up in Jersey and depicts this through her practice. She is interested in the relationship between ruins and the landscape, particularly the ‘New Ruins’ described by Rose Macaulay which references architecture resulting from the Second World War. Jersey, in the Channel Islands was occupied by German soldiers and the Nazi regime in the years 1940-1945. The Island’s coastline became littered with defence architecture constructed by the occupying forces as part of the ‘Atlantic Wall’ and today they remain as derelict ruins. Stephanie’s practice explores her relationship with the architecture reflecting on the recollections of Islanders and encounters with these ruins. Stephanie seeks to create a sense of place within her work and is currently exploring collage through the medium of painting as she endeavours to use colour, line and form to create her own landscape.
