Sophie Brown uses interactive installation work to explore her relationship with the physical world around her, exploring her connection with space in relation to a medical condition she has, Charcot Marie Tooth Disease. Through this condition, Sophie’s perception of space is altered, making her more conscious of how she interacts with the environment around her. This parallel state is subtle and unseen, yet impacts greatly how she interacts with space.
Working primarily within site-specificity, her work references tactility, in particular the bodily relationship with surface, interior space and the objects within that space.
With these installations, Sophie aims to challenge the participant and their positioning within space, in order to make them both bodily and spatially aware and the relationship between these two states of awareness.
