MICHELLE LI
Michelle Li's animations articulate themes from the everyday, and transforms them in a way that enters into the unreal. Presenting the animations through installation her work plays close attention to our relationship with space, simultaneously creating a subtle dialogue between the work and the viewer’s own perception of what surrounds them. Much of her work takes care to relate to the space that it is hosted in and hopes that it becomes seemingly part of its surroundings. Her animation work has grown and developed through stages of freehand, rotoscoping and now digitally generated. As well as the exploration of relationships with space Michelle experiments new ways of making animation through the bending of the characteristics of the medium in unconventional ways. The subject matter of her work comes from elements of the “outside” and is given a new meaning in the spaces she alters.
