LUCY BORTON
Through her practice, Lucy explores various concepts and mediums to create art that reflects her observations of aspects of her culture and youth environment, highlighting different political regimes at play through her work.
Currently, Lucy is exploring theories of ‘le petite mort’, identifying the link between sex and death with an aim to provoke the question “Is sex a practice of our own death?”
Lucy’s work is increasingly sophisticated with numerous underlying themes such as that of dehumanization, objectification, fetish, gender and political/sexual consumption, creating highly conceptual work that begins to scratch the surface of a deep chain of ideas.
Although Lucy is a lens based student, she strives to break the boundaries of a defined pathway and instead chooses to create art in the most appropriate form for its purpose whether that be sculpture, installation and painting or film, performance and photography.
Despite her unpredictability, Lucy feels the most important part of her practice is a sense of audience participation, if not in the literal sense, the idea that her work evokes strong feelings and uncertainties with the notion that viewers will reflect on concepts raised long after seeing each piece.
